The dark blues lock believes his team-mate’s 100th cap milestone deserved so much more at Murrayfield than being eased aside by the Grand Slam favourites, who delivered a dominant second-half display in their 22-7 victory.
It was a defeat that denied Gregor Townsend’s side a first Triple Crown since 1990 and Cummings revealed the dressing-room regret at letting down the Exeter Chiefs full-back.
He said: “Hoggy is a true legend of Scottish rugby.
“It means a lot. We’re all pretty gutted because it was a monumental occasion for him getting to 100 caps.
