KAI FOTHERINGHAM knows being a standout at Stirling has finally helped him deliver at Dundee United.

The youngster returned to Tannadice in January and after some impressive displays was rewarded with a new long-term contract earlier this week.

The 19-year-old was out of contract in the summer and after being sent out on loan he knew if he didn't deliver in League Two then he would be struggling to keep his United dream alive.

Fotheringham rose to the challenge with five goals and 12 assists and is now hoping he will get a belated League Two winners' medal along with helping to keep United in the Premiership.

And the striker is looking to take a major step forward by adding to last week's win against Hibs, when United travel to in-form Motherwell today.

Fotheringham said: "You have two thoughts - you either go down, or your rise to the challenge.

"I've come out the other side on top but it's a credit to the guys at Stirling Albion.
