JIM GOODWIN wound up Glenn Middleton to strike against his old club and send Dundee United up to fourth.
The ex-Perth winger was without a goal since away to Morton in April before his return to McDiarmid Park.
And he was reminded about that barren run by his boss in the build-up.
Middleton hit back by blasting in a right-footed equaliser from 20 yards early in the second half.
United never looked back after that 51st-minute strike. Sam Dalby added a quick second with a header and that turned out the winner as Saints responded poorly to the setbacks.
The home side were given brief hope by Declan Gallagher's late red card but couldn't capitalise.
Goodwin was thrilled with both goals. He said: "I was having a bit of craic with Glenn, saying he needs to score more.
"And we spoke about it, going back to one of your former clubs, you quite often see that sort of thing happen.
