First Minister says if Nats don't win by-election, he'll take party heat

HUMZA Yousaf has declared the buck stops with him if the SNP fails to win next week's Rutherglen and Hamilton West Westminster by-election.

And he predicted the contest could be determined by his party's efforts on polling day.

With the by-election on October 5 expected to be a two-horse race between the SNP - which won the seat in 2019 and Scottish Labour, he said ensuring Nationalist supporters in the constituency cast their vote could be crucial.

However, the First Minister admitted the SNP faced "some very difficult circumstances" in the seat, previously held by Margaret Ferrier.
