TONY DOCHERTY admits he is absolutely thrilled to land Trevor Carson.

The Dundee boss is adamant his new capture will be a key dressing-room influence on his club's return to the Premiership.

And 35-year-old Carson insists he can't wait to get started for Docherty after a six-figure fee was agreed with St Mirren.

The Northern Ireland keeper is set to be between the sticks in Saturday's top-flight opener at home to Motherwell.

Docherty was keen on Carson all summer and, having landed his man on a three-year deal, said: "Trevor is a goalkeeper I have admired for a long time. He is a fantastic standard.

"That kind of character in terms of personality, mentality, attitude and work ethic, he'll enhance this place and is the type of player and type of person I have been looking to bring to this club. I am absolutely thrilled I have got him.

"Last year I think he was a big part of St Mirren's success getting into the top six.

"At Kilmarnock we had two 0-0s and in both games Trevor's performance was outstanding.
