LABOUR BACKS FREEZE ON TAX

But Sarwar insists move must be funded to avoid service cuts

SCOTTISH Labour leader Anas Sarwar has said he will support a freeze on council tax if it is properly funded by the SNP-led Government.

Sarwar said he would always back measures to keep bills low - but not if it meant job losses and service cuts.

Labour believes its win over the SNP at the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election was partly down to opposition to proposed council tax rises.

First Minister Humza Yousaf was consulting on rises of up to 22.5 per cent for people in larger houses and the SNP privately admits it was a vote loser.
