CAROL MacINTYRE inspired son Bob in a heartfelt video, telling him how proud Oban and Scotland were of their Ryder Cup hero.

The 27-year-old was fuelled by her words and went on to win two and draw one of his three matches to help Europe regain the trophy.

Captain Luke Donald, who has lost both of his parents, drove home the importance of loved ones to his team ahead of the clash with the US.

And he commissioned videos to be made and played to each player at the start of the week in Italy.

Donald said: “Some of the things that we talked about as a group was that it’s really, really important to not just play for each other, but play for those that mean the most to you. I think that’s super powerful.”

MacIntyre and the majority of the side had tears in their eyes as the on-screen messages were shown.
