Ash, 51, disarms youth to prevent bloodshed

CCTV cameras captured the moment a hero shopkeeper tackled a youth armed with a meat cleaver.

Manager Ash Hameed was working at the Day-Today store in Stevenston, Ayrshire, when a disturbance broke out between two customers.

The 51-year-old raced around the counter to grab one of the brawling youths - who then pulled the large bladed weapon from his waistband.

Miraculously, the dad of three and a colleague managed to get both youngsters out of the store without anyone being seriously injured.

But Ash, who has run the store for 23 years, told how escalating violence in the area is causing him real concern for his livelihood.

He said: "You can see from the size of the meat cleaver that it could have done some serious damage.
