A TORY civil war over taxes has broken out, with PM Rishi Sunak facing calls from Cabinet colleagues for pre-election giveaways.
As the Tories gathered in Manchester for their annual conference, Sunak has faced demands from right-wingers in his party to lower taxes.
Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove said he wants cuts announced before the election.
Gove told Sky News: "Taxes are higher than we would want them to be. That is a fact. It's one due principally to the pandemic but also to an extent to the war in Ukraine.
"I'd like to see the tax burden reduced before the next election.
