RISHI Sunak's plans to scrap inheritance tax and put £ 1.1 million on average in the pockets of the wealthiest one percent has been branded "obscene".

The Prime Minister has been accused of using the tax cut to "buy off" MPs worried about their seats.

The Government has said the Budget will be on March 6, raising the possibility of a spring election.

Scrapping the tax would leave a £ 7 billion hole in Treasury finances.

TUC boss Paul Nowak said: "At a time when millions are struggling with the cost of living and when our public services are on their knees - it would be obscene to give a huge tax cut to a very small, wealthy minority.

"Just four percent of estates pay inheritance tax.

"But if it's abolished schools and hospitals would be starved of much-needed funding.
