Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has authorized a delegation to travel to Qatar for discussions on a ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza, his office said on Thursday, possibly the last effort to secure a deal before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

- Agencies

JERUSALEM:

The delegation is made up of officials from Israel's Mossad spy agency, the Shin Bet internal security service and the Israel Defence Forces. No timing for their travel was given.

The one-line comment from Netanyahu's office on the travel followed statements from Hamas that its delegation concluded a round of talks with Egyptian mediators in Cairo on Thursday.
