akshita.prakash@hindustantimes.comThe fight for both environmental protection and a healthier lifestyle led to the launch of the Veganuary movement in 2014. This movement, which first originated in the UK, encouraged people to take part in a 31-day challenge in January and adopt a vegan diet. The idea was to raise awareness around vegan lifestyle and its beneficial impacts. Since then many people, including those in India, are increasingly leaning towards a vegan lifestyle. According to Prashanth Vishwanath, country director for India for NGO Veganuary, over 1,28,000 Indians participated in Veganuary movement last year.

Decoding this trend, we speak to experts regarding the health benefits of following such a diet, and what one should keep in mind before taking up this challenge.
