RTE’S new director general Kevin Bakhurst will contact Ryan Tubridy next week to discuss his future with the scandal-hit broadcaster.
The Montrose boss said he expected a decision on whether the former Late Late Show host returns to the airwaves to be made before the end of July.
However, Mr Bakhurst said he would not be speaking to Mr Tubridy’s agent Noel Kelly.
Mr Tubridy has been off air from his weekday morning radio show since news of a payment scandal at RTE broke last month. His future at the broadcaster remains in serious doubt and RTE revealed on Friday that the star’s latest invoice had not been paid.
Mr Bakhurst told the Irish Times: “We can’t stop someone using an agent at the right point, but I can choose with whom I have conversations.”
