A provocative TV adaptation of the story of Ellis, who was 28 when she was hanged in 1955 for murdering her lover, will suggest an "unforgiving Establishment" played a role in the guilty verdict.
The four-part drama for ITV, told in two time periods, will explore the evidence uncovered by Ellis's solicitor, John Bickford.
Actress Lucy Boynton will play Ellis. The star has appeared in Chevalier, Agatha Christie's Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, The Pale Blue Eye and The Ipcress Files.
