Sunflower Sky hike to raise funds in support of blood cancer patients

ON FATHER’S Day next week Sunday, June 21, adventurers, families and supporters are encouraged to lace up their hiking boots and don their brightest colours for the annual Sunflower Sky Hike in support of blood cancer patients, survivors and their families.

At the heart of this year’s event is Ian Preston, who has completed the hike for the past 19 years in memory of his daughter, Jade, who lost her battle with leukaemia.

Despite recently recovering from an injury, Ian is once again preparing to take on the mountain, one step at a time, in honour of Jade.

“For me, this hike is deeply personal. I do it in memory of my daughter Jade and every step is a reminder of why we must keep supporting families affected by blood cancer and life-threatening blood disorders,” said Preston.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Sani Pass, an iconic, gruelling mountain pass in the Drakensberg mountains in KwaZulu-Natal.
