City's health chief to step down from role

THE woman who steered Plymouth through the Covid-19 pandemic is stepping down after eight years in the job. Dr Ruth Harrell played a “pivotal role” in steering the city through the crisis in her role as Director of Public Health.

She first joined Plymouth City Council as a consultant in public health in 2014 and then became interim Director of Public Health before taking on the role permanently in 2017. She said she is leaving the job for health reasons - but will remain at the council in a part-time consultant role.
