ALAN Mayes and Mike Smith celebrated their first win of the season when they beat Arash Dinari and Lawrence Hay.

Mayes and Smith enjoy their first win of the season

Alan and Mike took the first set, Arash and Lawrence stormed back to take the second set. The final set went right to the wire at 5-5. A tight tie-break ensued, which Alan and Mike won 10-7 and overall 6-2, 2-6, 6-5.

In Division B, Andrew Regan and Pete Ireland overcame a first set loss to the veteran pair of John Putman and Chris Shorter before fighting back to win 5-6, 6-1, 6-3

Roger Wratten and sub Rob Thomas, who was back playing in the Winter League after a layoff, overcame Lee Horton and Jon Jacobs in straight sets winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.

Dave Gale and Simon Dixon played Miki Booth and Kevin Wilkins and some good strong serving from Dave and Simon’s depth of return saw them take the first set. There was no let-up either as they took the second by the same score before winning the third 6-0 to clinch a 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 win.

Richard Cooper and Lewis Edwards had a great start against Andrew Regan and Pete Ireland which saw them take the first two sets. The third set was a tightly contested affair with Pete’s slices and Andrew’s net play causing problems. Lewis and Richard won 6-0, 6-1, 6-3.
