Someone who has not just borne witness to Mumbai's ever-buzzing, dynamic dining scene as a resident, but also in my role as a culinary chronicler for the last two decades, I am always amazed by how varied the city's F&B options can get. From fancy, three-level havens of fine dining and dive bar-inspired 'permit room'-style restobars to breezy coffee shops and others that pay obeisance to international cuisines like Mediterranean and regional Indian ones like Kerala, inertia is the last thing one would associate with the 'Maximum City'.
So, here's my list of five brand new Mumbai restaurants, bars, and coffee shops that have wowed me in this last quarter of 2024.
Ilili, Dadar East
Perched on the rooftop of a hotel building overlooking the chaotic Dadar train station on its east side, Ilili is the Ramee Group's new Mediterranean restaurant. Lounging by the poolside with a cocktail in hand and tucking into a mixed platter of kebabs adds a touch of magic to the already enchanting atmosphere, making Ilili the perfect setting for a sundown dinner. Here one can indulge in crispy falafels, flatbreads, and expertly made mains like a roast chicken with creamy mashed potatoes. With its open-air charm, stunning views, and authentic Middle Eastern flavors, Ilili promises to create unforgettable memories in a captivating setting.
