SET UP YOUR FIRST PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

With likes and shares on social media being the currency and reward for your digital imagery online, it’s easy to forget the power and impact of physical media. Printing your images out to hang on the wall can be one of the most rewarding experiences for photographers. I never get tired of seeing my images in physical prints, hanging them on the wall and even selling them, which can be a lucrative business. One of the pinnacles of printed photographs, aside from being printed on the front cover of a magazine or book, has to be displaying your work in a gallery or exhibition.

If you’ve never displayed your work at an exhibition before, you’ll need to make sure you pick your best work and pictures that go well with each other in a theme or style, such as black and white portraits, for example. You’ll also need to factor in the cost of printing, mounting and framing, the amount you’ll pay the gallery owner and also the cost of transporting all of your work to the venue, as well as the time it takes to set up.

In this article, we’ll cover all you need to know – from choosing the perfect space and inviting the right people to setting up the gallery, we’ll show you what a successful exhibition looks like.
