Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew

Ahoy, matey! When a game features undead pirates, it’s fair to assume that they’re the bad guys, but not here – that’s you, that is. Just as well really, as the supernatural shenanigans you and your crew are capable of ensure that there are a hundred different ways each mission could go. No two people will have the exact same playthrough.

It’s not entirely accurate to describe this as ‘isometric Hitman’, but that does set up your expectations rather nicely. The various islands you visit are all infested with fanatical members of the Inquisition, and they’re none too friendly towards the undead, so you need to carry out your missions as quietly as possible. There’s still plenty of killing, don’t worry (although you can opt for nonlethal attacks); you just need to make sure that you don’t get caught doing it.

You slowly revive the crew throughout your adventure in any order you choose (after the first one) until you finally have a full team of eight. While a handful of fundamental ideas are common to the various powers on offer – such as teleportation, emergency hiding spots, and attacking from a distance – each character is unique, with their own strengths and weaknesses. Team makeup is key.
