Netherlands stunned South Africa in match number 15 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. After two straight defeats, the Dutch, who gained qualification through the Qualifiers, pulled off their biggest heist in cricket history. After Afghanistan’s stupendous win against England in Delhi, the Netherlands now have earned laurels by shocking an in-form Proteas side, who won its first two games convincingly. The Netherlands were 140/7 in a rain-hit game reduced to 43 overs a side. From there on, they went on to amass 245/8. Skipper Scott Edwards’ record-breaking knock of 78* was the difference. For the Proteas, Marco Jansen claimed 2/27 from eight overs. In response, South Africa started well before the Dutch tightened the screws and reduced them to 109/6. David Miller (43) and Keshav Maharaj showed some fight, but the Dutch stayed ahead in the game and pulled off a solid victory in the picturesque Dharamsala. SA lost by 38 runs as Logan van Beek claimed three wickets.
Sri Lanka are now the only side without a win in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Here are the major records broken.
3rd WIN AT THE WORLD CUP FOR THE DUTCH The
Netherlands are participating in just their fifth World Cup. Before this, they claimed one win each in the 2003 and 2007 editions, respectively, defeating Namibia and Scotland respectively.
