The 16-year-old young wrestler bags a gold medal in the U-17 World Championship after a gap of 32 years
Suraj ends medal draught

The accomplishment of historical achievement isn't an easy task. It requires confidence along with determination and hard work. Recently Suraj Vashisth, a 16-year-old wrestler from rural Haryana won the historical gold medal at the Junior World Greco Championship. This was the first title from an Indian player after a gap of 32 years.

Within just four years of his career, Suraj has won this unique title. In this competition, he dominated in all bouts. In fact, in the final match, he thrashed his opponent Faraim Mustafayev by 11-0 points. This young boy wants to follow in the footsteps of Olympic medal winners Ravi Kumar Dahiya, and Yogeshwar Dutt.

For the record, Vinod Kumar had won the title at the under-17 World Championship in 1980. After that Pappu Yadav was the winner of this tournament in 1990. However, after that in the last 32 years, no Indian wrestler was able to achieve this title.

Speaking with Sports Champ Magazine, Suraj revealed his historical achievement and plans for preparations for various international championships in future.
