In issue #197 last year, we featured our favourite finalists from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) competition, the most prestigious of its kind on the calendar.

The winner was announced on 5 February: Ian Wood's surreal shot of a Eurasian badger ambling past some badger graffiti in St Leonards-on-Sea, England. Mr Badger and the four runners-up will be showcased at the WPY exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London until 29 June.
Once the main competition was done, it was time for the WPY People's Choice Award. A selection of shortlisted images was published on the website and nature lovers from around the world were invited to vote for their favourite.
There were plenty of other cracker shots in the mix, however, including our favourites, which we've showcased here. Photographs entered into the 2025 WPY competition are currently being judged by an international panel; the winners will be announced in October. Visit nhm.ac.uk/wpy to see a gallery of all the best shots from the main competition and the People's Choice Award.

Backing with purpose
Over the last two decades, the writers at go! have formed close relationships with different cars. In the 2000s and 2010s there were Toyota Condors and Renault Dusters, and now our dirt-road tourer of choice is a Suzuki Jimny. This diminutive 4x4 is very capable off-road, but packing space comes at a premium. As a result, we’ve discovered some great gear to make life easier when travelling in a small car.
