When we think of walking as exercise, it's usually more of a leisurely amble or aiming for those coveted 10,000 steps a day. But it is so much more than going from A to B. When you do it right, incorporating different paces and inclines, it can be a form of exercise that helps the pounds fall off.
HERE'S HOW TO WALK FOR WEIGHT LOSS
* Lengthen your whole body from head to toe, keep your shoulders back, core engaged, chin parallel to the ground and tuck your bottom in.
* Bend your arms at 90 degrees and pump them to propel you forwards.
* Hit the ground heel to toe, while engaging your glutes.
* Breathe in deeply through your nose and out through your mouth, to make sure that enough oxygen is getting to your muscles.
TOP TIP Imagine you have a strip of Velcro underneath your foot that you're peeling off the floor from heel to toe with each step.
MAKE IT MINDFUL
'Walk with awareness - it can bring emotional and physical benefits,' says fitness expert Nina Barough, founder of Walk the Walk. 'Be aware of the day, the sky, your surroundings, the weather and your energy?'
