Ask Jennifer Lopez the secret of her relationship with ex-baseball star Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez, and the star says simply: “We show up for each other.”

We are meeting at the Toronto Film Festival, where she’s promoting new film Hustlers. “I think that’s a big deal in a relationship,” she continues. “Especially when you are both strong people p who have two big lives.

“And that means, yes, showing up in person: me going g to his ball games, him coming to my concerts, going g to this event, going to that, all that stuff.

“But it also means showing up at other times –when I need to make a change in my life, or he needs to be better somehow or something like that. You’re there for each other in those ways too.

“Alex and I love each other, we love being around each other and we have a lot of respect for each other. And he constantly shows up for me emotionally as well as physically and that’s a beautiful thing for us, for our family and for our kids.”

Jennifer, 50, who has been married three times and had high-profile relationships with Sean Combs and Ben Affleck, never gave up on the idea of finding a love that would last.

“I love the idea of growing old with somebody,” she said a few years ago. “Being committed to them and declaring that to them – not so much to the world, but each to the other. I’d get married again – sure I would.”
