It has only been in the last two years that I have really developed an interest in the hobby and fully entered into the detector-wielding community.
My very first permission was on a farm in Stirling and consequently it would turn out to be my most interesting one. I decided to return to a field that I hadn’t searched for about a year – previously I had searched it with my old Garret Ace 150, but I had since upgraded and was really keen to try out my new Ace 400i there. My last visit had involved finding several corroded copper coins, musket balls and plenty of bag seals. However, I noted that the field was freshly ploughed and so I hoped some better finds might have been brought to the surface.

Lost and Found?
There have been several instances over my long detecting career where, not only has it has been a delight to be able to help people who have lost things, but also a great thrill when such losses are returned to their owners. I have several memories of such occurrences.
