There was non-stop action, elation and excitement not just on Centre Court, but in the Royal Box, too, when the Prince and Princess of Wales took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to watch the epic Wimbledon men's final.

While 20-year-old tennis star Carlos Alcaraz battled to become king of the grass against last year's champion Novak Djokovic, the young royals couldn't conceal their emotions during the nail-biting five-set match.

Dressed in a smart jacket and tie, just like his dad, George - who also attended the men's singles final last year-was gripped by the rallies and punched the air with glee as the players hit aces and winning shots.

Sitting at his side at her first ever Wimbledon, eight-year-old Charlotte didn't hold back either, putting on an animated display as she crossed her fingers, covered her face in suspense and threw up her arms with a triumphant roar.

The young Princess, who looked picture-perfect in a pretty blue floral dress from Spanish label Friki, shielded her eyes from the sun with a pair of pink Leosun shades. As she became engrossed in the on-court battle, she watched intently, sitting back with her hands behind her head and chatting to big brother George.

A FAMILY PASSION

Kate, looking elegant in an emerald green dress by Roland Mouret, later told Ella Ottaway, Wimbledon's children, young people and families co-ordinator, that her daughter was still "getting to grips with the scoring", and that George and Charlotte had been "eagerly watching" the action.

"Louis was very upset he wasn't coming today," she added, of her five-year-old youngest child.

As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, the smiling Princess presented overjoyed winner Carlos - the third-youngest Wimbledon men's champion in history with his trophy, to cheers from the crowd.
