The Couple That Plays Together...

Simon and Sarah’s candid love story’s flame won’t be quelled anytime soon. The power couple, who met during a team building outing in Athi River’s Lukenya in 2007, believe that it was their love for adventure, more than anything else, that drew them close. Under starry nights in Lukenya, their thoughts lost in the crackling flames of an African bush bonfire, their fondness for each other blossomed. What emerges during this interview with TRUE LOVE, is that, friendship is the glue that has held everything together.

Sarah Njoki’s childhood was mostly spent in Blue Valley Estate, a suburb of Embu Town, where she was born, beneath the shadows of Mount Kenya. ‘Our family was close-knit. My dad was a banker and mum a coffee farmer. They were church going and discipline oriented so there was no room for waywardness. Even if you wanted to be bad, you wouldn’t dare. We feared our dad.’

Being the seventh of eight children, meant that Sarah’s older siblings had a hand in raising her. ‘My sister was a lecturer at Igoji Teachers College in Meru and I had a brother who worked as a doctor in Nyeri. During the holidays, we would visit one of them. And Embu being the mid point between Nyeri and Meru meant I shuttled back and forth between these two towns that face Mount Kenya,’ she explains.

On her way to school, Sarah would be lost in thought every time she watched the tip of the mountain unwrap itself from the clouds. ‘It was very beautiful,’ she states.
