பொதுவாக சிலந்திகள் என்றால் மனிதர்களுக்குப் பயம்தான். அதற்கு காரணம் அவைகள் பார்ப்பதற்கு மற்ற பூச்சிகளைக் காட்டிலும் சற்று வேறுபட்டு உள்ளன. அவைகளுக்கு எட்டு கால்கள், 2 முதல் 8 கண்கள் உள்ளன. உடல்கள் இரண்டு பகுதிகளாக பிரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. தலை மற்றும் உடல் பகுதி. இந்த சிலந்திகள் அனைத்தும் பூச்சி இனத்தில் வருவதில்லை. காரணம், பூச்சிகளுக்கு ஆறு கால்கள் இந்த சிலந்திகளுக்கு மட்டும் எட்டு கால்கள்.
