BUSINESS bosses are urging Plymouth City Council to sort out the £12.7 milli on stalled Armada Way redevelopment as a “matter of urgency”, saying the latest delay is damaging trade.
Plymouth City Centre Company (PCCC), in a message to businesses, described the decision to postpone removal of the 110 trees already chopped down as “frustrating”.
It urged the council to take steps to get the redevelopment back on track and blamed the injunction obtained by action group Save the Trees of Armada Way (Straw) for causing the delay. It recognised the upset the night-time tree-felling caused but stressed the trees were not a major attraction for shoppers.
PCCC has said the planned redevelopment would be environmentally friendly, with 169 semi-mature trees due to be planted, and has potential to give the city one of “the finest tree-lined boulevards in Europe”.
