A POPULAR Plymouth veterinary surgeon who has been in the profession for 58 years is set to take on this year’s London Marathon.
Edmund Shillabeer, from Harwell Veterinary Centre, in Peverell, is one of the oldest fundraising competitors for his chosen charity.
The 83-year-old is running to raise much-needed funds for the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA).
Mr Shillabeer is also among the most senior runners set to take on the marathon on Sunday.
Mr Shillabeer has had plenty of practice over the years, completing his first London Marathon in 1981, when the first marathon took place on the streets of the capital city. He has taken part in over 25 marathons since then. Not only that, he still works as a full-time vet and has helped hundreds of pets and their families since the 1960s.
