After oath, Dissanayake says will lead by example in Lanka

Anura Kumara Dissanayake, 56, who won Sri Lanka's keenly fought presidential polls on September 21 took oath as the ninth president by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya at a brief, simple ceremony on Monday at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
In a seven-minute inaugural address during the 15-minute ceremony, Dissanayake noted that Sri Lanka was facing multiple challenges that required a massive effort and genuine contributions. "Because of what had taken place in recent history, people have lost trust in politics and politicians. Such a negative response did not augur well for a democracy. To restore public faith, I promise to lead by example and win people's trust. I will allow people to experience democracy and trustworthy politicians to restore their faith," he said.
