Interestingly, their representation is even lower in top leadership roles, though the share of self-employed women and employed women has sharply risen to 67.4 per cent in 2023-24. As of October 31, 2024, a total number of 73,151 startups with at least one woman director have been recognized under the Startup India Initiative. Women represent around 35 percent of FinTech start-up founders. As per the Wiser's report, the number of women-led startup unicorns has risen to 17% from 8% in the past five years.
