ACM Mar/April issue goes out with a bang with Iain Curry spending time with Frank Lowndes as he shared some incredible stories of Bathurst and racing in the late 1960s and ’70s. Better still, Iain was given a close look into Frank Lowndes’ love of one particular car. I won’t spoil it. Work your way through the issue and see for yourself. On the cover we’ve underlined the challenge facing energy storage in modern cars with VARTA. ACM is kicking off another huge year with a jam-packed issue. Starting at the front is the cover story: Precision Automotive Equipment is celebrating 25 years. We’ve also embraced the new year with a new idea. On page 12 you’ll find a section called OurAuto Powered by VACC. The tech features are raging, of course. Specialist Tools Australia has some excellent equipment to help deal with diesel-fuel contamination.  The Focus Features underline some exciting new advances in 4X4, batteries and electrical, and of course, Iain Curry brings us one of his gorgeous Classic Cars. This time he’s found a sensational 1959 Plymouth Belvedere.

This issue APG – Auto Parts Group – is our big story, and it’s about as big as stories can get. APG is a masterpiece of parts supply and innovation. It’s very interesting to see the way the company thinks and operates.
All the usual features like Smart Solutions, Innovative Products and Eye On The Industry have great advice and insight for the automotive industries, as does the IAME report and a very thought-provoking piece from David Fraser at Capricorn Society Ltd.
Of course, there’s a few focus features, a couple of Milwaukee Tool impact drivers get rattled through their paces, and ZF Services Australia is centre stage for a company profile. Former General Manager of Operations at Burson Auto Parts, Terry Penney, is the subject of the Industry People feature, and with over three decades on the job, Terry has a wealth of experience to share.

Could hybrid drives be the real-world bridge which moves us all from the internal combustion engine to the electric drives?
We’ve had look at hybrids this issue, and Castrol’s involvement with the sector. It’s an interesting area for thought.
As always, we’ve had a wander around to chat to some industry notables. Peter Blanshard of the Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers gives few tips on coping with the restrictions of the pandemic, Andrew Schram tells us about his four decades with Burson Auto Parts, and Chris Edwards shares some memories of a career with Snap-On Tools, providing hardware and equipment solutions from workshop to workshop for 30 years.
The Motor Traders Association of NSW has shared some big news in this issue, too. A trial of digital vehicle registration will kick off shortly, and it’s likely to be an extremely popular move with both the auto industries and the general public.
Of course, we have a couple of focus features – workshop tools and oils and lubricants – Iain Curry has a good close look at a gorgeous 1926 Model T in street rod trim, and the usual smart solutions, innovative products and Eye On The Industry all get a run.
