Sitting Down With Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
If living rooms across the country are looking more stylish these days, look no further than Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams, business partners and owners of their namesake store, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. When they opened their furniture company in 1989, their goal was to bring American furniture design out of its dark days of mediocrity and bad taste. They did it by introducing the concept of “relaxed design,” creating home furnishings that had the same comfortable-but-chic feel as the weekend clothes they admired at J.Crew and Banana Republic. Among other things, the pair re-introduced the slip covered sofa and the leather club chair, and both became big sellers at Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware stores across the country. In recent years, their focus has turned to their own branded signature stores—currently 30 nationwide—as well as their network of fine home furnishings specialty retailers across the country, including Villa Vici in New Orleans. With the recent release of their Big Easy sectional, a tribute to New Orleans’ laid-back style, ART+DESIGN recently caught up with the Southern style makers.

An essay on Destiny
Destiny is commonly believed to possess an element of human control that fate does not. We may be helpless against the inevitable trajectory of our fates, but our destinies can be molded by the choices we make.

The Villa Embraces the Raw and Brutal Reality of Its Tropical Desert Climate.
In a global city known for its flamboyance, abundance, and glitz, where outrageously oversized skyscrapers push upward around the Persian Gulf, where bling and brand names overwhelm as much as the punishing heat and humidity, it’s not surprising that some of its inhabitants would seek relief from the constant grind of construction and never-ending thrust toward the future.
