American printed magazines ditched in favour of on-line content only

A Print Free Future?

Back when the big collapse happened in the American magazine publishing market a couple of years ago I wrote a Last Word column about that collapse and how the large corporation that owned them had rebirthed itself as TEN – The Entertainment Network. I predicted then that we could expect worse from this market leader as they sought to develop their magazines as online only products, all that was unknown at the time was when that would happen. Now we know that date is December 2019 as TEN does away with all of its printed magazines except for Hot Rod, Motor Trend and Four Wheeler. Nineteen others are gone from the newsstands, including Street Rodder, never to return. If you were subscribed to any of these 19 titles I imagine you will be offered one of the three survivors to see out your subscription, or offered access to their on-line “package” only.
