INTERIORS GURU SHAYNNA BLAZE TALKS TO PAUL EWART ABOUT DAILY YOGA, SURVIVING TRAGEDY AND HER MENTAL HEALTH HABITS

Finding Balance

She’s notched up decade-long stints as a resident judge on The Block, and presenter on Selling Houses Australia, alongside penning multiple books and managing an award-winning interior design company that sees her jet all over the world to craft bespoke interiors for high-paying clients.

When it comes to juggling balls, TV host and all-round interiors guru Shaynna Blaze has more in the air than most. But when it all gets too much, she has a sure-fire solution to regain some internal zen – she hits her yoga mat.

“I stopped practicing yoga for a few years following an injury and just got out of the habit,” the 56-year-old personality tells Good Health. “And I really noticed that my mind wasn’t as fresh or as centered. When I did get back into it, I thought to myself, ‘Why did I ever let this go?’”

A fan of the ancient mental, spiritual and physical practice since attending her first class in her late teens, for Shaynna, yoga isn’t just about throwing shapes on a mat, it’s a foundation for maintaining internal equilibrium – a foundation that she employed while shooting the latest season of hit reality show, The Block.

A positive start

“I have a very active mind and I work across multiple projects,” she says. “For me, one of the best things about yoga is the mental strength it gives you. I can centre myself mentally and emotionally while I exercise, so I feel like I get a double benefit.
