Anglo-Saxon Gold
As you are no doubt well aware, searching during the winter period can be rather harsh, what with frozen ground and the extreme weather conditions.
Just Another Day
On Tuesday 7 February 2017, the day started as normal, but little did I know how it would eventually pan out.
A Big Thank You to Our Members
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and to let you know what a great bunch of people we have within Hampshire History Hunters (HHH).
Garrett Z-Lynk Wireless System
Wireless headphones systems are definitely becoming more popular these days.
Blackberries and Rare Bullets
Quite a few years ago now Treasure Hunting magazine asked me to field test a new C.Scope detector.
Thunderstorms and Sea Creatures
The first week away for my wife and I in 2016 was to Cala Bona on the lovely Spanish island of Majorca.
Symbols Of Love
I went to a dig in Suffolk two years ago, quite early in the season as I recall.
The XP HF Coil A Pasture Test
Recently many questions have been asked about the new HF coil from XP. One that regularly crops up in conversation is “How do the higher frequencies compare to the black coil running at 18kHz?” Taking everything into consideration, and to be perfectly honest, the answer is – I really don’t know.
I Don't Believe It!
It was late February this year (2017) when the club had a Sunday dig on a ploughed field near Pegwell Bay.
Summing Up Summer
A green woodpecker is often seen here, and we can’t help wondering whether it is the one that we rescued a couple of years ago – although I suppose the chances of that are slim.
Forty Years To Find You!
As we drove to one of our favourite sites Dave and I discussed the usual detecting based topics, including those dream finds that we still want to make.
Is It The X Or The XP Factor?
Hi folks, Gary Blackwell from XP here.
Really Old Gold!
I was out and about on a charity club dig in South Devon with the UK History Finders when I made the fabulous discovery of some really old gold.
My Favourite Finds The Early Years 'Eyes Only'
This series will show what I consider to be my favourite finds from over 60 years of searching, plus a few locally made finds found by other people that are also favourites of mine.
A Wonderful Celtic Hoard
After my last Celtic finds account (Figs.1-2), that was featured in Treasure Hunting magazine’s News and Views (May 2018 issue) I’m pleased to announce that there is even more to tell.
Votive Iron Age Hoard
I have been detecting since 2011 when my father got me into the hobby – and what a hobby it has turned out to be!
Just Loving The Lead
I’ve been detecting for two years, (well, on and off) which isn’t long I know, but now I’m truly hooked.
A Genuine Enigma Revealed
I am a member of the Romanian Military Archaeology (RMA) team and currently we have around 15 individuals operating in the recovery of military artefacts of historical importance. All of our team proudly use XP Deus detectors in and around the Bucharest region and have achieved some amazing results with them.
Field Test Makro Multi Kruzer
As always, it was a real delight to be asked to examine the latest detector to be released into the highly respected Makro range.
A Stunning Medieval Gold Ring
It was just another Sunday and since I had nothing else planned I thought it would be rude not to have a few hours of detecting somewhere.
Finding a Victoria Cross
I am a passionate detectorist and, despite living in London, still manage to go detecting three or maybe even five times a week.
Michael's Garden
When Andy asked me to join him on a garden search in the middle of June I wasn’t exactly enthusiastic.
Very Rare Medieval - Steelyard Weight
In February 2017 I was invited to Wiltshire as part of a detecting road trip in my campervan.
Beach Test - Garrett ATX Pulse Induction
As most of the readers of Treasure Hunting magazine will know, I use Pulse Induction detectors approximately 85% of my detecting time; the other 15% is done with a VLF discriminator detector.
Finds from Toddy's Digs Scotland
As a dig organiser I am always looking to provide a good day out for detectorists with all levels of experience.
A Great Hammered Day
On those cold, snowy rather bleak winter mornings I sometimes question my sanity, because I’m opting to leave a nice warm comfortable home to walk around a muddy field.
Field Test Report Nokta Impact
I was pleasantly surprised when I was asked by Treasure Hunting magazine to conduct a field test for the new Nokta Impact. So, before I delve into the machine itself, I think I ought to explain a few things about the company who makes them.
A Brief History Of The Durotrigians
I live in a house where each time I step outside the front door and look towards the south, I see the abandoned mighty green humps and ridges.
The River Thames and its Tributaries
Almost four decades have come and gone since archaeologist Raymond Selkirk put forward his innovative argument that the Romans in Britain (and elsewhere) made substantial use of rivers as part of their logistics when supplying front line legions. Scores of detectorists throughout northern England and southern Scotland helped Raymond with his research by detecting around potential riverside sites revealed by the aerial photographs he took when flying his light aircraft along the routes of the region’s rivers.
A Very Successful Year
This is my first attempt at writing anything like this since the essays I used to write way back in my school days. I am therefore somewhat nervously putting this article together in the hope that it will be of interest to readers.
