12-Year Death Mystery - What Really Happened to Brittany Murphy

Brittany Murphy won hearts all over the world when she exploded onto the big screen as the naive but endearing Tai Frasier in the coming-of-age classic movie, Clueless.

Her career soared afterwards, and the actress with the big smile, wide eyes and distinctly recognisable voice starred in 8 Mile beside Eminem, and in Just Married with Ashton Kutcher – whom she also dated in 2002.

Naturally, Brittany’s fans were devastated when, on December 20, 2009, she collapsed on the bathroom floor of her West Hollywood home and died. A coroner concluded Brittany succumbed to a lethal concoction of things, including pneumonia combined with anaemia and “multiple drug intoxication” from prescription medication.

Now, a scandalous docuseries, What Happened, Brittany Murphy?, is hitting our screens and will reveal chilling new details about the star’s final days, as well as her relationship with husband Simon Monjack, 40, who eerily died just five months after Brittany from very similar causes.

Emmy award-winning director Cynthia Hill will explore Simon’s shady past, presenting him as a pathological liar who preyed on Brittany and her mum, Sharon. It’s claimed he isolated them and drained their money, while encouraging Brittany’s use of prescription pills and dangerous weight loss.

Dr Lisa Scheinin, the deputy medical examiner who conducted Brittany’s autopsy, will appear in the documentary claiming medical intervention could’ve saved Brittany’s life.
