Nivedita's English: Journey Into The Divine

We will concentrate now on Kali the Mother, because it shows a bizarre and astonishing combination of narrative methods, something that Nivedita hardly did either before or after. Published in 1900 this small, handy volume is nevertheless a procession of paintings. Words, employed like colours on canvas, reminding one of Lily Brescoe’s painting in Virginia Woolf’s acclaimed work To the Lighthouse, suggest a variety of moods and emotional intensity.

Reminiscences Of Sargachhi

Swami Premeshananda (1884–1967) was a disciple of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi. For over two decades, he lived at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sargachhi, first as its monastic-in-charge and later as a retired sannyasi. He inspired countless people to lead a life of spirituality and service. Influenced by him many young men and women entered into monastic life. His conversations and teachings were noted by his attendant novitiate who is now Swami Suhitananda, one of the Vice-Presidents of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Published in Bengali as Sargachhir Smriti, these reminiscences have been translated into English by Sri Shoutir Kishore Chatterjee.

Religion: Being True To Your Own Nature

The greatest religion is to be true to your own nature.1This is a pretty simple, straight-forward statement. Being true to our own nature is the greatest religion that is or can ever be. That is it. End of story. While this is really simple, this is also, by far, the grandest statement that Swamiji has uttered on religion. Why? Let us see presently.
