THE WHITE HOUSE PAINTED BLACK

THE WHITE HOUSE PAINTED BLACK

The house was originally built in 1959 and was designed by a member of the Harvard Five w New Canaan, Connecticut, USA. It stayed within the family for which it was built until Tamara Bahry and her partner Rob White bought it in 2014. Tamara fell in love with the original design the moment she saw it and loved all the wood and glass. The location was perfect: it was built on a point, with views to all sides, lots of privacy and only 30 feet from the water. Alhtough the house was painted black, it was called ‘The White House’.

SERENITY AND ELEGANCE

Renee and Ken Metrick were used to working seven days a week in their retail business in the Canadian Town of Toronto. If not travelling they were at their home base. They asked architect Kelly Buffey of Akb Architects to realise their dream cottage.

GRIMM TO THE LIMITS

The location of the house is special, it could have come straight out of a painting from a 17th-century Dutch master. The spot, Wierdijkje, can be found on maps as far back as the middle ages. Meadows lined with trees moulded by the sea wind, a path that disappears amongst shrubs and, in the distance, the dunes. It is a protected area, so for the time being nothing will disturb this idyllic picture. This is the coastal stretch of the province of North Holland, where the wind has free play over the land, where Jorg and Hannah Grimm bought an old ́ stolp´ farmhouse, aiming to transform it into a weekend home where art is the binding element. Here they find peace in their otherwise exhilarating life in the art world.

Italian Emotions

The villa dates back to 1844, located in Albignasego, is a stone throw away of the ancient Italian city of Padua. In former days it was used by a noble family to control the surrounding land. Beginning of the 21th century, the Bottacin family decided to buy and to restore it. That complete restoration process was guided by Elena Bulatova and Vittorio Bottacin, who established their international interior design studio and general contracting firm in the reborn Villa Studiolo now surrounded by fields of roses.
