VOLUNTEER TO MAKE UK'S LONGEST EVENT HAPPEN
One of the UK’s biggest cycling events, the London-Edinburgh-London Audax ride, is running this year – and you can be a part of it. Like nearly all grassroots cycling events in the UK, the ‘LEL’ relies on volunteers, 700 of them to be exact, and recruitment for the many roles on offer is currently under way.

He may not be a pro cyclist, but Joe Rees is a world-class Zwift racer, and this Saturday he will be competing – from home – in the UCI eSports World Championships. Rees, who at 21 is the youngest member of the GB team, will be competing alongside fellow Zwift specialists Gavin Dempster, Ed Laverack, Mark Bruce and Andy Nichols. The Welshman is currently studying to become a teacher, and during the week described in detail below, he was squeezing in training around hectic days on placement in a primary school.

World Championship road race 6 August, 1972
Frenchwoman Geneviève Gambillon rides to her first World Championship win in Gap, in southern France. Gambillon was a constant presence in the cycling world throughout her career. In that time she won the French national title on the road seven times and a further 15 titles on the track, mostly in the sprint and pursuit.
