In this issue of India Outbound our focus is on the MICE sector. We highlight how destinations have identified MICE as the key to a rapid recovery and hence are aggressively promoting themselves as prime MICE destinations. The November-December 2021 edition of India Outbound is out now!

In this issue of India Outbound, we bring a round up of  2021 that offered a ray of hope to many, if not all, stakeholders of travel, tourism and hospitality from around the world. After a disastrous 2020, when all three sectors were essentially shut down almost through the year and even beyond, travellers and travel agents have now begun to gather courage to revive and restart.Perhaps it may not be injudicious to say that of these, business travel and to some extent MICE have resumed alongside the FITs. Spotting the opportunity, some countries, like neighbouring Sri Lanka, have already begun to target the segment proactively by hosting events, even if virtually, to reconnect with stakeholders in India in this domain, through events like the Virtual MICE Expo in Sri Lanka.

Another segment that is growing is sports tourism. Big sports events, notably the Olympics as well as the FIFA Football World Cup, have always attracted visitors from around the world, but these were traditionally the hard-core fans of a particular sport. However, over the past decade or so, as tourism industry flourished globally and with a rapidly growing appetite for various sports, many more people, than just the fans, begun travelling, not only to enjoy a good game of cricket or an exciting evening at the football stadium, but also to soak in the entire experience.

The September-October 2021 edition of India Outbound is out now!

In this issue of India Outbound we focus on the Expo 2020 Dubai, that is all set to open with a big bang on October 1 and could indeed be the torch bearer for the rest of the industry-related events. Lasting six months, Expo 2020 Dubai offers a mind-boggling range of activities and the organisers remain confident of attracting at least 25 million visitors until March 31, 2022 when the curtains come down on this exhibition. The Jan-Feb 2021 edition of India Outbound is out now! Few years were so welcome for the global tourism industry as the year 2021. Despite crisis, most tourism destinations retain their focus on India, a key source market and are banking on a revival later this year.

Tour operators, too, have braved the pandemic and are spotting some early signs of revival, especially for honeymoon and leisure segments to handful of destinations that are open to Indian tourists currently, notably Maldives and Dubai.

One of the first segments to have resumed overseas, even if not fully, is film shooting as nearly half a dozen Indian films have already been shot or are on the verge of being shot overseas. Bellbottom, starring Akshay Kumar was the first to open the doors when its crew headed to London in August and has since been followed by a few other titles.

Another segment that is all set to ring the bells is destination wedding.  With close to 10 million marriages a year in India and with an overall budget exceeding USD 50 billion, an increasing number of families had been opting for a wedding or at least part of a wedding overseas. With the gradual easing of restrictions, wedding planners have begun organizing wedding overseas. They expect a full-throttle revival, even with reduced number of guests and some budgetary cuts, to take place next year.
