What an event! Rockhampton fired up big time for three days of unprecedented high-octane petrolhead awesomeness over the Easter weekend! Bursting with horsepower in myriad forms, some of the wildest modified cars in the country took center stage in an action-packed weekend.
Planned and run by the Summernats organization, in conjunction with Rare Spares and Advance Rockhampton, this central Queensland town of some 80,000 people transformed itself into petrolhead heaven. Cars, bikes, more cars, and more bikes – the thunder of mostly unrestricted internal combustion engines reverberated along every street and down every alley.
Now you can read about much of this sensational event elsewhere, but seeing that HEAVY DUTY is a bike mag, let’s concentrate on the two-wheeled machines, of which there were plenty.
Because the weekend was combined with the Queensland State HOG Rally, there were baggers galore, along with a swag of vintage, custom, and one-of-a-kind rides. I was lucky enough to judge the bike Show ‘n’ Shine along with Gaz Luxmoore, former HOG Director with Harley-Davidson Australia.
