ACTOR, PRODUCER AND NOW DIRECTOR ADINATH KOTHARE TELLS ANALITA SETH HE IS WAITING FOR THE LOCKDOWN TO LIFT SO HE CAN SHOWCASE HIS LABOUR OF LOVE, PAANI, TO THE WORLD
ANALITA SETH
The water-method man

Adinath Kothare has grown up with the sound of the clapboard, the hustle-bustle of a film set and the grandeur of the movies. Son of an eminent Marathi filmmaker and actor Mahesh Kothare, he started acting at the young age of 10 and made his debut in 1994 with Majha Chakula. Breathing cinema ever since, Adinath is now one of the most celebrated actors in Marathi cinema and has ventured into direction with the award-winning Paani. The Priyanka Chopra produced film won the National Film Awards for Best Film on Environment Conservation but couldn’t be released commercially because of the pandemic. He’s also ready for his big Bollywood debut with Kabir Khan’s ’83 and has a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Waiting for the release of two of his biggest projects, Adinath shares his nervousness and excitement with us in a candid chat. Excerpts..

How has the lockdown 2.0 treated you?

This lockdown has been comparatively kinder than the first one. We as actors and filmmakers are waiting for things to open up. Unless the theatres open, we’d continue to be in the lockdown.

What happens for you once the lockdown is lifted?

When the theatres open, I have a few releases lined up. There’s ’83, something that we all are waiting for. I’m playing Dilip Vengsarkar’s charactor in it. Then, I also have my directorial debut, Paani, which is produced by Priyanka Chopra, ready for release. We’ve already won the National Award for it in 2018. There is another movie called Panchak, produced by Madhuri Dixit where I play the protagonist. Then, there are some other announcements coming out soon.
