Record the whine of the mosquito in any regular mobile phone, and send it to Abuzz, Citizens Science Vector&nbsp;Tracking&nbsp;mosquito&nbsp;monitoring platform at the&nbsp;Prakash&nbsp;Lab at Stanford, led by Manu&nbsp;Prakash, assistant professor of Bioengineering.In response to the recording sent by people from all over the world, Abuzz would create a map to show where and when the species of mosquitoes are likely to be present.The researchers match the hum, after clearing the background noise, to that of the species that produces a similar hum. So the next time a mosquito whines at your ear, you are likely to know what type of a mosquito it is. For easy identification, the researchers have created a mosquito library with over a 1,000 recorded hums of captive mosquitoes and wild ones.Vector borne diseases like malaria, dengue,&nbsp;chikungunya,&nbsp;Zika, West Nile virus and yellow fever kill millions of people around the world.When the Abuzz network identifies the type of mosquito that haunts a particular area, it might help in efficient prevention and control programs.
