Learn how to enhance your movies in the excellent LumaFusion video-editing app using customisable titles and animated transitions
Cutting down hours of raw footage into a slickly edited sequence is time-consuming work, much like baking a cake.
Inserting titles and transitions into the timeline is like icing the cake! It’s quicker to do and produces a more attractive-looking result.
Titles help complete your edited video and make it look more professional. LumaFusion comes packed with a collection of animated presets that help your footage’s titles and captions look as professional as those in any broadcast TV show. As well as introducing your programme with a main title, you can add captions to identify locations or introduce people. You can also modify LumaFusion’s title presets to suit your needs.
Transitions are also easy to add thanks to a collection of drag-and-drop presets. Transitions do a variety of jobs. The most common type is the classic cross dissolve (or mix), which has been around since the earliest days of cinema. It blends the end of one clip into the beginning of the next, and is often used to indicate the passing of time, or a link between the two visuals. Dissolves can also be used to flow a series of clips together into a seamless montage sequence.
You can use wipe transitions to creatively flow from one shot to the next. A horizontal or vertical wipe can indicate a change of location. The Star Wars films famously use wipes to jump from one part of the galaxy to another. We’ll show you how to use wipes in a creative way so that the direction and speed of the wipe complements movement in the scene.
