Great Conception

Business developer and marketer Amber Guegan and graphic and web designer Carole Moreau have grown their friendship and shared experiences of motherhood into a thriving T-shirt brand.

A mutual friend kept telling Amber and Carole they should meet, as they’d get along famously. And when they eventually did four years ago, serendipitously finding themselves sharing a desk at a Cape Town business hub, the rapport was instant.

They were freelancing in very different fields – Carole designing websites for small companies and running an online vintage shop; Amber, who has an MBA in communication and marketing, working in

business development, mainly for a European TV news channel. But both are originally from France (Carole from Lyon, Amber from Saint-Malo), and they shared senses of style and humour. Perhaps more pertinently, both were pregnant – Carole with her second child, Amber with her first.

‘We were far from our moms and desperate for someone to chat with about breast-feeding and other things that bore nonpregnant friends,’ says Amber. ‘And once our babies arrived, we began talking about starting some kind of business together from our homes.’
