Missing the Indonesian villa they enjoyed on a recent holiday the owners decided to recreate their own retreat at home.

The decision to transform their home into a retreat came after the owners returned from a holiday in Indonesia. "They'd had a private pool and an indoor-outdoor experience they really enjoyed, which was a high priority in their new home," explains David Gockel of Gockel Architects. "They were very openminded about what needed to be included in the house and were not wed to designing a home that conformed to social norms."
