Too Much Sitting Can Accelerate Ageing

SITTING FOR EXTENDED PERIODS can harm the heart and accelerate ageing, even if you are young and get the minimum recommended amount of daily exercise, according to a US study published in the journal PLOS One.

To study the impact of prolonged sitting on two key measures of heart and metabolic ageing, such as cholesterol and body mass index in young adults, researchers used data from more than 1,000 adults, including 730 twins, average age 33. On average, participants were sitting almost nine hours every day, with some even sitting up to 16 hours.
